| PARABOLIC PICKINGS The Center for Research in Securities Prices reports that, for the ten years ended in 2004, micro cap stocks (those in the bottom 10% by market value) outperformed large cap stocks by over 10 percentage points annually. Many pundits suggest that investors get into small caps (often defined as a market value under $1 Billion) through a mutual fund or by having someone else manage your money – but the Parabolic Stock Picker has a better way – by giving subscribers specific Buy and Sell recommendations for our carefully researched Picks, saving you that research effort (at very little cost). We take a fundamental approach to screening for financially sound companies whose stock prices don’t (in our humble opinion) reflect the prospects for the underlying businesses. This is often due to a previous earnings disappointment, which investors can be slow to forgive after having been badly burned; or, it may be due to a restructuring that is finally bearing fruit everywhere except in the share price. We then use basic technical analysis to identify opportune price levels to enter the market with the expectation of seeing price rises within a relatively short time frame. Sometimes, our stocks even Go Parabolic and unusually large gains are captured in a very short time! The Bargain Bin Parabolic Portfolio focuses on stocks with strong cashflow and large cash assets; these stocks are often priced at less than 2x cash, despite solid earnings growth prospects. Cheap Growth screens for companies with high sales and earnings growth but whose future earnings growth is not being rewarded with an appropriate price multiple; these firms are often completely debt free but selling for less than 2x book value. Parabolic Stock Picker believes that these two stock screens are complementary and, together, make up our Bargain Growth philosophy for identifying the best available small cap stock trades. We feel that it is important to follow all of the Buy signals in both portfolios (and, of course, the Hold and Sell signals) in order to achieve the optimal returns, diversification and portfolio turnover we desire. |
